Raised in the Midwest, Julie Blakeley made the right move to Big Sky in 1997 after attending the University of Arizona and earning a BS in Business Administration. Julie worked in Big Sky’s tourism industry, and at the Big Sky Chamber of Commerce before beginning her real estate career with Big Sky Sotheby’s International Realty. Specializing in properties in Big Sky proper, the Yellowstone Club, Moonlight Basin and the Club at Spanish Peaks, she attributes her success in real estate to her love of Big Sky, and 20+ years of experience in the area. Julie believes the backbone of Big Sky is citizen involvement in the community. A dedicated volunteer, she enjoys giving back to the community she loves and is an avid supporter of the local music scene, rarely missing an opportunity to enjoy live music. Julie also enjoys cross country skiing, hiking and golfing, and is the proud mother of two beautiful children.

1. How would you describe the music scene in Southwest Montana?

The scene is as eclectic and diverse as the people and landscapes. Our audiences appreciate everything from alternative, indie, and country, to rock and blue grass.

2. What are your favorite places to watch live music?

Pine Creek Lodge – tucked into the heart of Paradise Valley, it’s an unforgettable venue. The cozy treed setting creates an intimate atmosphere with the stunning mountains as a back drop.

3. Which annual music festivals or events do you never miss?

I attend the Red Ants Pants Music Festival every July in White Sulphur Springs. It’s three days of great music and raises money to support women’s leadership, working family farms and ranches, and rural communities in Montana.

4. If you were to recommend just one music event to someone new to the area, what would it be and why?

Big Sky’s Music in the Mountains hosts a summer music concert every Thursday night in Len Hill Park. June – September visitors and locals can enjoy live music while the sun sets over Lone Peak.

5. What is a hidden gem venue that you think visitors might not know about?

The Old Saloon in Emigrant, Montana is a great venue to see real western music. Great place to kick up your boots! And to top it off, its only a few miles from Chico Hot Springs.

6. Are there any up-and-coming artists you’re excited about?

The Futurebirds – I’ve seen them at Pine Creek, Jackson Hole Rendezvous Fest, and Big Sky’s Music in the Mountains. They are a mix of country-rock and indie-rock. Super fun.

7. How does the local music scene enhance the overall lifestyle you describe to clients?

If you enjoy live music, SW Montana can’t be beat. Year round, you can see bands in Paradise Valley/Livingston, Bozeman and Big Sky. You can ski or hike all day and then sit back and listen to great music.
